Indiana: Solidarity with Wabash Valley SHU Protests. Emergency call-in days August 1 and 2!
Submitted by copwatch on Mon, 08/01/2011 - 10:08amFrom NYC Anarchist Black Cross
The call-in days are Monday, August 1 and Tuesday, August 2nd. Wabash Valley administration can be reached at (812) 398-5050. The Indiana Department of Corrections commissioner can be reached at (317) 232-5711
On the morning of 7/16, a member of the Aryan Brotherhood was stabbed by other prisoners. The attack took place at Pendleton Correctional Facility in the Maximum Security area of the prison. The administration used the stabbing as a justification for putting every prison in the state on lockdown and conducting system-wide searches, raids, and beatings. Since the lockdown began, inmates at the Secure Housing Unit at Wabash Valley had been denied access to water for bathing, sanitation, and cleaning their cells.

April 29, 2011

ON MAY 1, 1886--125 years ago this month--hundreds of thousands of workers were taking the streets of cities around the U.S. to demand an eight-hour day.
The epicenter of this great labor struggle was Chicago, where the eight-hour movement inspired defiant protests and strikes--and inspired fear and repression from bosses and their loyal servants in law enforcement.

Submitted by copwatch on Thu, 01/06/2011 - 2:01am2nd Anniversary of Oscar Grants Foul Killing marked by Vigil/Rally at Fruitvale BART.
On new years day 2011, a racially diverse crowd of 150-175 people marked Oscar's murder at the hands of BART police with statements from Grant family members, reminiscences of Oscar, and pledges from family and community alike to carry on and intensify the struggle to get justice for all of the many victims of unjust police violence. The Vigil/ Rally was called by the Grant family with solidarity from the family of Derrick Jones ,another unarmed black man from the east Oakland neighborhood near Fruitvale BART who was recently shot up and killed by the OPD.
The "Oscar Grant Committee to Stop Police Brutality and State Repression" that includes Oscar's 'Uncle Bobby' and family friend Jack Bryson among its active members, played a prominent role in organizing and sponsoring the event. The event was organized in a little over two weeks time, using the OGC's and Grant family's network of contacts.

Submitted by copwatch on Thu, 12/16/2010 - 12:00am...If we win any justice for Derrick Jones it will only come through the same protests and mobilizations. This will have to start with people getting the word out and mobilizing--in churches, in streets and in schools. It will come through not being afraid to stand up and speak out, even if we have to yell over carols at City Council meetings.
