Toy Soldiers, by Mumia Abu-Jamal 12/17/11
Submitted by copwatch on Wed, 01/04/2012 - 10:57pmAccording to recent news accounts, shattered and shredded body parts and remains of U.S. servicemen were found in a landfill.
Despite political spins, this sobering image is a telling, true-life metaphor for what those in power really think of soldiers, many of whom are but boys and girls freshly loosed from High School.

Submitted by copwatch on Wed, 12/14/2011 - 12:00amONA MOVE, Everybody! We've received news that Mumia has now been transferred to SCI-Mahanoy, another prison in Pennsylvania. He is in "Administrative Segregation", he is not in general population yet. We need to let those administrators know, immediately, that we know Mumia is there and that the WORLD is watching. People need to flood the prison with calls and flood Mumia with postcards (Mumia needs to know that we have his back). ----Ramona

Urgent Update On Mumia Abu Jamal, Dec 8, 2011
Submitted by copwatch on Thu, 12/08/2011 - 12:00amOn Wednesday December 7, 2011 District Attorney of Philadelphia, Seth Williams, accompanied by Maureen Faulkner, announced at a press conference that he was not pursuing another hearing to reinstate the death penalty for Mumia Abu Jamal.
This means that Mumia is now sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
There is already talk about him now being moved into general population.
Some people may celebrate this as a victory but MOVE is not under any illusions about these treacherous officials, we ain’t fooled one bit by their deviousness. We see this latest decision for exactly what it is- A devious tactic to kill Mumia in a so-called different way.

Submitted by copwatch on Tue, 11/30/2010 - 12:55amNo News is Not Good News: If Cops Tape Protests and Journalists and No One Reports It, Is It Intimidation?
Created 11/19/2010 by: Dave Lindorff
Is it news when police photograph and videotape demonstrations?
Apparently for American editors and reporters, making that news judgement depends on where the demonstration occurs and what nationality the police are.
When a hundred artists gathered outside a Beijing courtroom in mid-November to protest the jailing of artist Wu Yuren, who had earlier been beaten by police and jailed because he had gone to a police station to file a complaint against a landlord, the New York Times ran an article by reporter Andrew Jacobs which pointedly noted that police officers had videotaped the crowd, and then quoted a demonstrator, artist Dou Bu, as saying, “I was scared to come out here today, but you have to face your fears.”
Buried Alive, But Fighting On

In the best-selling Steig Larsson trilogy, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, the heroine, Lisbeth Salander, a hardwired, brilliant young computer genius is shot and presumed to be dead, but is actually buried alive by the antagonist. He is a prototype of the cruel, greedy, misogynistic, exploiter. She claws herself out of her premature grave and, indomitable and focused, defeats him. Finally by the end of volume three she has triumphed—using her own brains and, relying on her friends and comrades—over the entire corrupt corporate, governmental, military power structure that had been trying to oppress and suppress her, her whole life.

The only legal options to be considered at the Third Circuit's November 9 hearing are whether Mumia Abu-Jamal is to be executed or get life in prison without parole. Clearly neither of those two options is acceptable.

"The Mehserle Trial" , from Mumia Abu-Jamal July 10, 2010
Submitted by copwatch on Sat, 07/17/2010 - 10:49amThe manslaughter verdict returned against former BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) cop, Johannes Mehserle, for the videotaped murder of Oscar Grant, sent hundreds of protesters back into the hot streets of Oakland, California, Grant's hometown.
The corporate media scratched its collective head, essentially asking 'Why protest when the guy was convicted?"
The protesters knew, however, that the court system bent heaven and earth to return the lightest verdict possible; involuntary manslaughter' and that Mehserle faces a possible sentence of probation to a maximum of 4 years in prison.
They knew that Mehserle got a non black jury, hundreds of miles from Oakland.
They knew that each of those hundreds could've been Oscar Grant, unarmed, shot to death on tape and the same thing would've happened.
Of course, the corporate media doesn't get it.

Supreme Court of Death Rules Against Mumia Abu-Jamal
Abolish the Racist Death Penalty!
On January 19, the U.S. Supreme Court took a clear step toward the legal lynching of Mumia Abu-Jamal. The Court vacated a 2001 decision by federal district court judge William Yohn overturning Mumia’s death sentence. Yohn’s decision had been previously upheld by the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals. The new ruling by the Supreme Court underscores our insistence that fighters for Mumia’s freedom must place no faith in the courts, which, at every level, have colluded with the police and prosecutors to see through the execution of this innocent man.
Great Film Centered around Mumia Abu-Jamal- FRIDAY, July 3rd, Eureka
Submitted by copwatch on Fri, 07/03/2009 - 9:29am
Come see this film at PARC's new location!
"In Prison My Whole Life" is a well done documentary inspired by a man who was born on the day that Mumia Abu-Jamal was arrested. Mumia has been a political prisoner, on death row, for over 27 years, now.
The filmmaker does a great job talking with people about (researching) racial injustice and the Prison Industrial Complex and giving a thorough run down of the frame-up that has had Mumia on death row since 1981.
Mumia is facing execution and we can't let it happen!!
