Documents recently obtained by The Informant reveal the significant involvement of state and federal law enforcement in monitoring the various Oscar Grant protests in Oakland over the past two years.
According to internal Oakland Police Department documents about the July 8th protests that followed Johannes Mehserle’s involuntary manslaughter conviction, agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency, United States Secret Service, and the California Department of Justice were assigned to monitor crowd activities.

On Tuesday November 9, an oral hearing in front of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in Philadelphia will decide whether award-winning journalist and former Black Panther Mumia Abu-Jamal will face execution, despite compelling evidence of his innocence, or be given life without parole. Demonstrations and other events in support of Mumia are being organized across the US and in other countries (see list below). The Global Women's Strike (GWS), Women of Color in the GWS, and Payday men’s network who have worked with Mumia for a new trial will be attending the rally and hearing in Philadelphia, as well as participating in a protest outside the US Embassy in London England. We urge you to show your support.

Approximately seventeen people have been charged over the past three weeks with crimes related to the protests against former BART cop Johannes Mehserle's involuntary manslaughter verdict on July 8th. Some of those recently charged were arrested that night, while others have been identified by police in photos, and have been newly arrested. The latest set of arraignments on Monday morning saw three Oaklanders charged with Unlawful Assembly, Remaining at the Scene of a Riot, and Rioting. They are set to reappear in court within the next month.

After the recent uprisings in Portland in response to two police murders, a call has gone out for "West Coast Days of Action April 8th and 9th, From the Bay to the Sound: No More Police Killings!" The call to action reads in part: "Organize protests and autonomous actions in your own city!" Announced actions thus far include non-violent civil disobedience at Embarcadero BART station in San Francisco on April 8th and a march against police brutality in Seattle on April 9th.

Tatiana Grant, 5 years old, daughter of Sophina Mesa and Oscar Grant.
There has been a civil lawsuit SETTLEMENT for Tatiana Grant, Oscar's 5 year old daughter. Oscar's Mother still has a lawsuit against the Oakland BART cops, as do the 5 young men, close friends, who were with Oscar when he was murdered. The young men recieved abuse themselves and witnessed the cops execute their friend who was laying on his stomach in handcuffs.
