Redwood Curtain CopWatch, based in the north coast of California, is part of a larger movement of self organized CopWatch groups throughout the US. Our local efforts seek to intervene in the drastic rise of the presence, militarization, and violence of the police, and build support networks based on self-determination, caring, and concrete needs.
Stimulus Package: If I had a billion dollars...
...to spend on one project, I would spend on a program to prevent police brutality because many people have been killed or beat up in Eureka by the police. This action (program) would prevent police from committing crimes. This would also reassure the community- our homeless, our mentally impaired, and our families who's children have been killed that they would be protected from police brutality. The police who are committing these acts of violence are wrong and need better training. The police brutalized and killed a woman in her apartment, Cheri Lyn Moore, and they had no strategy to have her come down. 16 year old boy, Christopher Burgess, was killed for running- shot and killed by police. Finally, my brother, Martin Frederick Cotton II suffered beatings and blunt force trauma to the skull by police. My brother is dead. In Humboldt County the tactics and arrests need to be organized clearly with modeling procedures of training. This approach of training will give the community a visual in preventing deaths of innocent people and police brutality.
